Functional Bowel Disorder
Specialists in diagnosing and treating a range of disorders
Functional Bowel Disorder (or FBD) is when where there is a problem with how your stomach and bowels function.
When you have FBD, all your organs are normal, but you’re experiencing symptoms like nausea, feeling bloated, stomach pain, constipation and diarrhea. FBD’s are very common. Learn a little about each one below.
Irritable Bowel Syndrome
(IBS) describes a group of symptoms that include lower stomach pain that may go away after having a bowel movement.
It can also include bloating, constipation, and/or diarrhea.
IBS cannot be diagnosed from an X-ray or a blood test. It is based on the symptoms the person reports to their doctor after other causes are ruled out.
If you are concerned you may have IBS, ask your doctor to refer you to us.
Chronic Constipation
Constipation is a common problem. Most episodes of constipation are self-resolving. Chronic constipation can be a debilitating issue for people that suffer from it.
As constipation is a possible symptom of Bowel Cancer, a change of bowel habit towards constipation will require a medical assessment, and often a Colonoscopy to investigate.
Our doctors will assess your symptoms and come up with a treatment plan for you. This may include medications, or sometimes surgery.
